available to support you and your business.
Knowledge and experience available to support you
I’m Iain Felstead and I founded Erasmus Risk Consulting in January 2023 to address a gap in the market for smaller and medium sized asset managers and wealth managers and to provide risk management solutions, support maturing organisations to improve their risk management practices and to help ensure that risk management becomes embedded in the decision-making processes. With many smaller or less mature firms being unable to afford the overhead of a fully resourced and experienced Operational Risk Function, engaging Erasmus Risk Consulting provides an opportunity to leverage over 25 years of relevant industry knowledge, 20 years risk management technical expertise and the support of my expanded network of experts.
Change creates risk and in an industry where there is non-stop innovation from fast-moving markets, financial instruments, product development and technological advances, this creates both risks and opportunities. When combined with the importance of delivering appropriate outcomes for your clients, and fulfilling your stewardship responsibilities as an investor, this means you are facing ever-increasing regulatory requirements and scrutiny.
Experience
My real-world risk management experience has been developed over 25 years in Financial Service and includes Head of Risk and Head of Enterprise & Operational Risk roles in Asset Management, Wealth Management, Private Banking, Insurance and Retail Banking (for a FinTech Digital Bank). During this time, this has included a combination of large and smaller organisations in the UK, Singapore and Germany. These include M&G plc, Prudential plc, Eastspring Investments (Singapore), Quilter plc (in both Quilter Investors and Quilter Financial Planning), Brown Shipley (a Quintet Private Bank), Postbank AG (Germany) and Tandem Bank (a green UK Digital Bank).
During my career I have been able to develop experience and deliver consistently in the following areas:
Providing pragmatic and proportionate counsel and constructive challenge to senior executives and business stakeholders on risk management issues.
Facilitating workshops covering RCSA, risk identification, risk mitigation, emerging risk and capital scenario analysis workshops. Working with the business to develop and embed RCSA processes and ensure that the processes and controls are effectively designed.
Development, implementation, maintenance and periodic reviews of risk management frameworks, policies, procedures and standards.
Delivering risk management training to senior executives, business managers, line functions and operational risk practitioners.
Collaborating across business units and functions, achieved by a combination of effective business partnering and proactive stakeholder management.
Advocating, adapting and adopting industry best practice risk management within the business.
Team leadership (across remote offices) and the development of team members to ensure they able to operate at the highest level.
Undertaking thematic reviews or internal investigations into operational incidents.
Access to a strong network of experts
In collaboration with the subject matter experts within your business, Erasmus Risk Consulting is also able to call upon industry experts in the fields of Compliance, ESG, Climate Change Risk, Operational Resilience, Information Security, Third-Party Risk Management, Risk Quantification, Governance Risk and Compliance (GRC) systems and Insurance (via a range of collaboration arrangements). Tailored solutions based on commercial pragmatism
By applying experience in a pragmatic and collaborative way to your issues, while maintaining focus on your commercial reality, I am able to tailor the services provided to your specific needs. This can be in the form of delivering ad hoc activities, focusing on specific pieces of work, undertaking an agreed number of days work over a period of time, or offering regular consultations to oversee progress on certain activities or issues. This flexible approach can ensure the delivery of improved risk management and senior management decision-making, ensure you meet your internal and external deadlines, raise the most relevant risk issues to your Senior Executives, fulfil regulatory requirements and add value to your organisation both now and into the future by embedding sensible risk management practices.
